Louis Réard invented the bikini and presented it for the first time to Paris on July 5, 1946 to the Molitor swimming pool carried by a famous naked dancer of the Casino of Paris (no mannequin not wanting to carry it). He stated to have chosen the name of Bikini in reference to the atoll of the same name on which, five days before, had taken place a nuclear explosion. He hoped that the effect of mode of this new product would be comparable with that of the explosion which had just taken place.
