Because of its financial problems, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was acquired by Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) in 1901. The network was improved and of the faster trains were employed. The heritage of this work is still visible later 100 years, thus of the steel bridges were replaced by cement and stone bridges. The network was strongly used during the two world wars.
